Our Memorial Day Was Better Than Yours!

We spent our Memorial Day out in Slovenia, white water rafting with Lisa and Cody! It was a BLAST! We are all from different parts of Florida, so we reminisced about the springs and how we could relate this (maybe) to tubing down the river. Boy! Were we wrong! The water in the Soča river is an Alpine river, its source lies in the Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, at an elevation of 876 meters. Basically, a river... in the Alps.

Need I say more?!

So here are some pictures from the trip!
The place we went is called 'X Point, Slovenia'.
They have rafting, canyoning (which was our #1 choice), kayaking, canoeing and hiking!

These dates are obviously wrong, but X Point did let us use their waterproof camera! So oh well!

Uh ohhhh! Lisa jumped and we almost lost her!

As you can see by our faces... the water was really cold! Brrr!

Today, Italy had a little festival where the towns showcase their wines and offer wine tasting. The first one we stopped at wasn't that great! It was a smaller vineyard and the wines were too dry for my liking! I am more of a sparkling or sweet, dessert wine kind of gal! The next place was BEAUTIFUL! So picturesque, as you can tell! The last wine I tried was a sparkling, called Osè from the town of Marsuè. We got a mini tour of the winery and were on the porch of a beautiful Italian home. It was a lovely Sunday, well spent with the McGaughs (who else?!).

Caves of Caglieron

Today we went to the Caves of Caglieron, located in the village of Breda Fregona in Treviso.

I thought I heard of the caves through a blogger I followed from here in Aviano, but now I can't seem to find it! So props to you, mystery person! Or I might've just stumbled upon it on Google... who knows!

Pretty scary looking bridge that we had to walk on, which was hard in rain boots!

The best part about these caves is that they weren't super monitored. As wrong as that sounds, we could do whatever we wanted there! There was no cave police tell us not to touch the walls or use flash on our cameras! It was still very pristine and in its 'natural' state. The water flowed through so effortlessly! Such a lovely experience on a cloudy day. Even with the misty rain, we still got to enjoy a day out exploring!

Low Key Week

This week here in Italy has been pretty drab. It has been raining pretty much non stop. Yesterday we saw a little clear weather and took advantage while we could!

Cayman and I can iMessage. That is pretty much our means of communication while he is at work, even then it's pretty scarce.
So, he messaged me seeing if I wanted to go golfing, of course I said yes, since I've been in the house all day alone.
I needed some socialization.

So Nicole and I chatted on the golf carts and the boys played their nine holes, pretty relaxing except for the freezing wind and the sudden rain storm at the eighth hole.

We were promised dinner so we agreed on BeFed's which is a brew pub that specializes in a dish of chicken and fries that you eat with your hands. They also have this AMAZING sauce that you dip everything in. If you're in Aviano, go to BeFed's!

(sorry for the crap pictures, I only have my iPhone at the time...)

--------------------------

Earlier this week, I suggested we go on a mini-hike after Cayman got home from work. Surprisingly, he agreed to go! Just kidding, he normally agrees to my ideas if they are somewhat reasonable!

So we planned to go across town to hike but decided that weather looked sketchy, so we stayed on the mountain that we live on and hiked a local trail.

Uh oh...

Okay, so Wednesday I went to a Premier Designs Jewelry Party with Nicole.

Yes, at first I was like oh god, this is like Texa's style jewelry (only because Nicole is from the great state of Texas!). It was kind of gaudy and bright, nothing that I am used to wearing. Heck! The only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring set!

After the awkward 'say your name and something about you' bit, and I won a little contest... we both loosened up. I don't know ANYONE here. Not literally, I know a few of the wives, but I'm not part of the spouses group since I'm just a 'visitor'... So it was nice putting names to faces and getting to meet a few ladies that I'll probably never see again... haha!

Nicole and I walked in saying 'okay, we aren't going to buy anything!' She walked out with her pride and I... didn't! I didn't spend hundreds of dollars, because I simply don't have hundreds of dollars...yet!

I did buy this though:

whim
(the necklace)

whim3 whim2

Seriously?! HOW CUTE! It looked to good on me to not buy! It's a longer necklace, so you can double it up or wear it long. I also bought a cute red ribbon that has fasteners on it so you can hook it to ends to add a little flare. It's dainty and sweet.

And, I'm sold.

I am thinking about (in the future) hosting a party at my next base (PENSACOLA LADIES!!!!). Not a lot of active duty women get invited to these things, since it's kind of close knit with the 'wives club' haha! But I think it'd be fun to do with my fellow officer ladies and the other wives can come too! No hazing here, everyone is invited, well, women are invited! Since dudes don't wear jewelry.......

So yes, I will do that in the future, I think! It could be fun and to get a little comradery within my peers and share my home will be fun! I can't wait...! T-6 months. Haha!
