Seriously one of the most gorgeous places in Europe! We traveled down to Venice and hopped on a ferry for less than an hour and arrived here! I'm glad we didn't just sit at home all day, because we were really thinking about it. We spent the day wandering the alleys of Burano, which is an island off of Venice. Not many people go here that are stationed in Aviano, simply because they do not know about it! Lucky us, I blog! Yeah... never thought I'd get anything out of it! *wink wink* Check it out here.
We walked around for a few hours, snapping as many pictures as possible without annoying my husband, then ate lunch on a corner restaurant. We promised that we were going to try something seafood related, since Burano has a decent fishing industry (cheaper than Venice, but even better quality) and the biggest export of Burano is handmade lace.
So we ate lunch and were surprised by this:
What?! No.
We each tried a piece, I always end up biting off too much! It was gross.
At least the rest of our lunch was good! We chose the 'Turist' menu which came with all this, a salad and a biscuit
(and of course we ordered wine... too much actually, so we had to stumble our way back to the port after scaring ourselves that we missed the last boat...but we didn't).
Such a good day spent together. These are the moments I live for.
*To get to Burano from Venice S. Lucia train station: Stay to the left, do not cross over the Grand Canal. Follow signs for F. Nova. Once at the port area, cross over the bridge, buy tickets for Line 12 to Murano/Burano (Dock A). It's about an hour ride on the water taxi, costs 14euro roundtrip. If you want to visit Murano too, just buy a day ticket (can use water taxi as much as you want in 24 hours) for 18euro.*
Oh Bree, what an incredible day spent with Cayman. Exploring a new city, trying new food, drinking too much wine.. it's just lovely. The smiles on your faces, the happiness of being together, it just radiates through these photographs. You are so deserving of these special times together. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteOh wow!! That place looks gorgeous--I think it would be too cool to see all of those brightly colored buildings so close to each other like that! What a fun outing!
ReplyDeleteOoo gorgeous pictures! I haven't been to Burano yet! I wanted to go there on my last trip to Venice, but we went to Murano first and ended up spending the whole day there.
ReplyDeleteYes! I had, honestly, never heard of them before! Until I read someone's blog... we spent the whole day in Burano too! It was beautiful. Did you like Murano?
ReplyDeleteIt was one of the best days ever! We were supposed to go with a big group of friends, but yes... EVERYONE bailed! So we went alone and I'm almost happier we did because we could do what WE wanted!
ReplyDeleteWow, I need to visit Burano sometime in the near future. The colors are so vivid and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWe were in Venice last summer and didn't even have time to visit Murano! Next time it will definitely be a longer trip.
