We live an hour north of Venice, Italy. I have been here for nearly two months and we finally journeyed down to the City of Water or the City of Bridges, whichever your prefer. We didn't have plans for the eve of New Years since we were both still sore for our trip to Slovenia and Austria, so we made a day trip out of it!
Overlooking the Grand Canal
At the top of the tower in Piazza San Marco
Piazza San Marco, getting ready for the NYE celebrations!
Gondola guys
Pretty canal in Venice (sun flare success!)
Pigeons that were not interested in my french fries!
Piazza San Marco, Venice
Hot wine in Europe has been our go-to item this winter! Its a spice filled red wine that they serve at scalding hot temperatures, it really does warm your soul and scorches your mouth.
Under the Rialto Bridge, which is famous for being the first of four bridges to span the Grand Canal. The Rialto Bridge is lined with shops and is a gateway to the Rialto Market.
The train ride from Sacile station to Venice was about an hour to get there. I love taking trains. You can easily be entertained by fellow riders. In South Korea, we sat behind a toddler who mocked everything we did. Cayman and I came to the conclusion that most girls are too pretty to be around the guys they are with here in Italy. We'll leave it at that.
We spent a few hours in Venice and had lunch and drinks at the Hard Rock Cafe. We didn't stay until the party for New Year's Eve since the trains would stop running shortly after, so we came home ate dinner at San Georgio's where Cayman got this weird appetizer:
I thought it was squid or octopus, but it was just mushrooms wrapped in mozzarella and bacon placed atop a pool of grits.
Then we finished out the night with Total Recall and candy.
These are the best nights.
