Snowboarding in Slovenia and Salzburg, Austria

Living in Europe has many perks. One is the ability to travel to another country (or more) in less than a day.

We were invited to go snowboarding in Slovenia with another military couple, so we drove the hour or two drive to Cerkno, which has a big ski resort, in Slovenia. The drive there was a little crazy, having to maneuver kilometers of mountain roads (which we still don't know if they were two ways or not!) and not getting ran off the mountain. This was our first drive out of the country, since we flew to Paris, we researched to make sure we knew all the hidden laws about headlights and vignettes.

Cayman and I snowboarded in South Korea last year, being my first time, I sucked royally. But this time around wasn't much better! I managed to make it down the bunny slopes without dying but then we overstayed our welcome. We were drinking hot wine, or kuhano vino, in the ski shop and the lifts shut down... thus meaning we had to snowboard down the intermediate slope to make it to the parking lots.

Bad Idea.

I bruised my inner thigh from my board somehow hitting me, I bruised my vertebrae/tailbone from falling so much and I have bruises all over my butt from hitting ice and from falling so much. Overall, not that bad. I am still alive at least!

Off to Salzburg, Austria!

We had to wear these ridiculous outfits to protect our clothes while in the mines.

We got old time pictures done in Salzburg. Cayman wanted to be Mozart but I think this military look suits him well!! (Better than a crazy old man wig)

My mom was an Air Force brat growing up and was stationed in Germany for a few years in high school. She traveled around Europe, just like we are! We had to track her steps and go to the salt mines in Austria, since she had been to the exact same one! She told me about the slides that take you deeper into the mines and how much she loved that memory. Now Cayman and I have the same memory, just decades later!

I'm so grateful that I married a man that loves to travel and has a job that allows us to often! I can't wait to travel more in the future with him, fingers crossed we get stationed outside of the USA!

  1. I think that we should plan a trip together! Carl and I definitely want to go to Thailand! We should do that, it would be so much fun. It will probably be difficult for us to plan too ahead of time just because Carl doesn't get to choose when he gets leave, they just give it to him... but hopefully you guys would be able to take off time when we have the time off. But we should SO do that.

Also, I'm really happy you've started updating your blog! Blogging is AWESOME! I am subscribed to your blog so I know when you put up new posts ;). I love it!
