I've been doing a pretty bad job about posting our latest travels to Greece and Santorini, but hey! Oh well! I'm only in Italy for three more weeks *insert sad face here* so I'm trying to gulp in as much Italian air as possible!
So...this post is all about our first full day of doing something in Santorini!
We arrived in off the ferry around noon, so we spent that day relaxing at the hotel, around the pool and exploring the little town and grubbing on some amazing food! (I'll save a post just for food, don't you worry!)
We got to the docks a little early for our 'Caldera/Volcano/Sunset' Tour so, we wandered...
How about those model shots? Ha!
Finally headed to the volcano!
On the right is the machine that monitors seismic activity and on the right is a sulfur vent! Stinky and relatively hot!
Nea Kameni is the name of this volcano which erupted and made this island! Not much here, except volcanic rock, thus making it a tourist attraction! This volcano is still active, which was super cool for us Floridians because DUH! We don't have volcanos! They just had an eruption in 1950, so they are planning on one soon. An eruption 3600 years ago created the caldera that makes Santorini unique and famous!
After the volcano tour, we swam in a 'hot spring' nearby, but unfortunately, no pictures! The sulfur content is really high, so they said it could ruin our waterproof electronics, so NOPE! The 'hot springs' weren't really that hot and to get to them, we had to swim through FREEZING cold water...but the jump from the ship was pretty awesome, I cannot lie.
To the left in this picture, the little rocky island... THIS is where we went cliff jumping. That post will be coming soon! Stay tuned!

Our new friend Layna from Canada. She was AWESOME and so brave to be traveling alone!
She was on holiday before starting her banking career! Oh, and she let me use her jacket, so nice!!!

Our first official day was amazing, great, tired, yet rewarding! We met some awesome people, hiked an active volcano, swam in some rusty water and witnessed the world's best sunset! I'd say it was a day well spent!
Bree - those photos are incredible! I am so jelly! I also can't believe how long your hair is! Also - I love you guys.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Santorini amazing?! I spent two weeks in Greece a few summers ago and loved the natural beauty and charm of that place! Glad yall had a wonderful time!
